A:

The submission of forms will not be affected. All forms can be submitted during the opening hours of all sports facilities in the University.

 

Q:

When can I know the results after submitting the forms?

 

A:

The staff in charge will handle the submitted applications during office hours between Monday and Friday. All the application results and enquiries will be handled within 5 working days.

 

Q:

Will the implementation of 5DW affect the retrieval of booking permits (the approved booking forms) or the notification of results of group account applications?

 

A:

No. The approved permits can be retrieved during the opening hours of all sports facilities in the University. The results of group account applications will be notified by phone or through e-mail.

Q:

After the implementation of 5DW, will the classrooms and the T.Y. Wong Hall in the Ho Sin Hang Engineering Building still be loaned out for use for classes or other special activities on Saturdays?

 

A:

Yes, the classrooms and the T.Y. Wong Hall of the Ho Sin Hang Engineering Building will still be loaned out for use on Saturdays for classes or special activities. Those who want to use the facilities on Saturday mornings (from 8:30 am to 1:15 pm ) are required to make applications to the Registration and Examinations Section during office hours. Those who want to use the facilities on Saturday afternoons (from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm ) are required to make applications to the Faculty Office of Engineering (Room 608 Ho Sin Hang Engineering Building) from Monday to Friday during office hours.

A:

A:

Q:

Since the 2nd term add/drop will close on January 20, 2007 (Saturday), is there any special arrangement?

 

A:

For students' convenience, the above deadline will be extended to 12:00 noon on January 22, 2007 (Monday). Students should submit their add/drop forms as early as possible. If approval/advice from Departments are needed, students should check the Departments' office hours through their homepages.

 

Q:

Can I make enquiries on course enrolment, academic progress or examinations; or submit applications for leave etc., on Saturdays?

 

A:

Yes, normal service with a limited number of staff will be maintained throughout the transitional period of January 1 ˇV June 30, 2007 . Students are reminded that all our services can be handled via e-mail, fax, telephone, or by post. Our service hours from Monday to Friday are also extended. Q:

I wish to collect my transcript in person, or submit documents to apply for course and unit exemptions. Can I do these on Saturdays?

 

A:

Yes, our G/F counter will be open on Saturdays during the transitional period to provide the services concerned. Please feel free, however, to visit our counters during our extended service hours from Monday to Friday, or authorise someone to collect/submit documents on your behalf.

 

Q:

Can I book classrooms on Saturdays?

 

A:

Yes, the classroom booking service will be kept open on Saturdays during the same period.

Can I buy University souvenirs on Saturdays?

 

A:

Yes, on or before March 31, 2007 . Thereafter, customers are encouraged to patronise the Souvenir Counter during weekdays, or telephone 26097886 to arrange mailing/special orders.

Will 5DW affect any services provided by the Security Unit?

 

A:

No, all services remain as before.

Will classrooms and toilets be cleaned on Saturday mornings?

 

A:

Yes, EMO will retain a small workforce on Saturday mornings to clean a limited number of classrooms and toilets.

Can I get access to the mailbox in the Office of Academic Links on Saturday mornings after the implementation of 5DW?

 

A:

No. Please come to OAL to pick up the mails during office hours from Mondays to Fridays.

Q:

Is there any way to pay fees if your Centre closes on Saturdays?

 

A:

Students can settle the payment by cheque/ bank draft, or visa card/ master card (for specific courses and it is not applicable to programmes charging tuition fees in foreign currencies). Crossed cheque/ bank draft should be made payable to ˇ§The Chinese University of Hong Kongˇ¨. Please write the applicant's name and course code on the back of it. Please see ˇ§Notes for applicationˇ¨ for information.

Is it possible to have an organised class on Saturday?

 

A:

Self-arranged group class can be held on Saturday, but the venue will be at the students' office or club house.

 

Q:

Do you have any courses offered on Saturdays?

 

A:

In order to satisfy the different demands, our Centre also offers short courses on Saturdays downtown ( Causeway Bay , Tsimshatsui). Full time intensive short courses may be held on Saturdays too. Please visit CLC website for more information.

 

Q:

Is it possible for students to borrow the hall for a unction on Saturday?

 

A:

Yes, with application in advance. Rental fee is required.

 

Q:

Since the lead time for the student visa processing will take 4 to 6 weeks, how can I get it faster? Can I know the result as soon as possible?

 

A:

Can you please check the procedures and download all the related forms from CLC web site at  http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/clc/e_admission.htm .

In order to shorten the period for the student visa application, you may send us the documents by express mail with the following details:

i)  completed application form;

ii) a cheque (including the application fee and deposit ˇV make payable to ˇ§The Chinese University of Hong Kong ˇ¨);

There is no change to the opening hours of the Libraries after the implementation of 5DW in CUHK. Existing opening hours remain the same.

 

 

 

[University Health Service]

 

Q:

Does University Health Centre still provide service on Saturday mornings after the implementation of 5DW?

 

A:

Limited medical outpatient service is maintained on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon during the period January 1 to June 30, 2007 . Only walk-in and semi-urgent cases are entertained. Requests for non-urgent medical services (e.g. medication for chronic diseases, physical examination, vaccination, health certificate or medical report, applications for reimbursement of medical expenses, etc) can be made during office hours from Mondays to Fridays. Applications for reimbursement of medical expenses can be made by mail anytime during the week.

 

Q:

I have a chronic illness necessitating long-term regular medication, currently obtained from UHS. What can I do if I were to find myself inadvertently out of stock of the medication I am taking and am unable to attend on a weekday? Am I still able to obtain my regular medication from UHS on a Saturday?

 

A:

As UHS is manned by skeleton staff only on Saturday mornings, only urgent and semi-urgent cases can be attended to. However, in case of need, a one week's supply of a patient's regular medication can be provided. Further supplies will have to be obtained during opening hours on Mondays to Fridays.

 

Q:

What can I do if I get sick beyond UHS opening hours and would like to have medical service?

 

A:

In case of emergencies, members of the University should seek treatment at the Accident and Emergency Department of public hospitals.

 

 

 

[Postgraduate Halls ]

 

Q:

Can applications for postgraduate hostel still be made on Saturday mornings?

 

A:

Application forms for Postgraduate Halls can be sent to the PGH General Office by email or by fax anytime during the application period.

 

Q:

Can residents report defects or request repair service on Saturday mornings?

 

A:

Residents can report defects or request repair service anytime during the week as the service counters are open 24 hours daily. PGH General Office will coordinate the work on the next earliest working day.

Will the operation of the Hostel be affected in any way by the implementation of 5DW?

 

A:

The daily operation of the Hostel is not in any way affected by the implementation of 5DW. Arrangements have been made to ensure sufficient staff on duty during the opening hours of the Hostel. Residents/Visitors can always contact any staff on duty for assistance and report of emergency matters.

 

Q:

As the Hostel is not manned 24 hours, where can I get help in case of emergency?

 

A:

You may submit application forms in person (within office hours), by post or online. With the exception of the Administration Office at CUHK, enrolment centres still operate until Saturday afternoon.

Will there be any staff answering my questions on Saturdays?

 

A:

It depends on the nature of the questions. Generally there are staff answering questions in our enrolment centres. For General enquiries, you may obtain information via the School's 24-hour hotline system.

A:

Will there be any site staff from the Campus Development Office on Saturdays?

 

A:

The CDO will basically adopt a 5DW. However, site and slope works supervisory staff will be on duty every Saturday, from 8:00am to 5:45pm .

A:

The opening hours of the Clinic will remain unchanged:

Monday to Friday : 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Saturday : 9:00 am to 12:30 pm

[Information Technology Services Centre]

 

Q:

Will the operation of essential IT systems such as campus-wide e-mail system (CWEM), CUHK web server, e-Learning platforms (WebCT, Moodle and CUForum), administrative systems, academic computing systems, e-Services and campus network be affected after the implementation of 5DW?

 

A:

The operation of essential IT systems will not be affected. In fact, the Central Computer Room of ITSC will continue with its existing non-stop operation after the implementation of 5DW to ensure that the essential IT systems are up and running at all times.

 

Q:

Will the CU-Link Card Centre be opened on Saturday mornings after the implementation of 5DW?

 

A:

The CU-Link Card Centre will remain open on Saturday mornings during the 6 months transitional period from January 1 to June 30, 2007 . ITSC will keep the option open to extend the transitional period based on the usage of the Card Centre's services on Saturday mornings.

 

Q:

Will the test sessions of the IT Proficiency Test at the IT Learning Centre be available on Saturdays after the implementation of 5DW?

 

A:

Yes, the test sessions of the IT Proficiency Test at the IT Learning Centre will still be available on Saturdays regardless of the implementation of 5DW. Please visit http://www.sitc.cuhk.edu.hk/test.html for test arrangements.
