A:

The submission of forms will not be affected. All forms can be submitted during the opening hours of all sports facilities in the University.

When can I know the results after submitting the forms?

A:

The staff in charge will handle the submitted applications during office hours between Monday and Friday. All the application results and enquiries will be handled within 5 working days.

Q:

Will the implementation of 5DW affect the retrieval of booking permits (the approved booking forms) or the notification of results of group account applications?

A:

No. The approved permits can be retrieved during the opening hours of all sports facilities in the University. The results of group account applications will be notified by phone or through e-mail.

After the implementation of the 5DW, will the classrooms and the T.Y. Wong Hall in the Ho Sin Hang Engineering Building still be loaned out for use for classes or other special activities on Saturdays?

A:

Yes, the classrooms and the T.Y. Wong Hall of the Ho Sin Hang Engineering Building will still be loaned out for use on Saturdays for classes or special activities. Those who want to use the facilities on Saturday mornings (from 8:30am to 1:15pm ) are required to make applications to the Registration and Examinations Section during office hours. Those who want to use the facilities on Saturday afternoons (from 1:30pm to 6:30pm ) are required to make applications to the Faculty Office of Engineering (Room 608 Ho Sin Hang Engineering Building) from Monday to Friday during office hours.

Is there any technical support for computer rooms booking to be provided on Saturday mornings after the implementation of 5DW?

A:

Our skeleton staff on duty can fully manage the request of the general computer room usage; ad hoc staff will be assigned to assist if advance request is specified.

Will the opening hours of MDL rooms be changed after the implementation of 5DW?

A:

There is no change of the opening hours of MDL rooms after the implementation of 5DW.

Can requests be made for supporting activities other than the regular teaching and departmental meeting on Saturday or Sunday after the implementation of 5DW?

A:

Yes, please use our online job submission system at http://www.mit.cuhk.edu.hk/jobs.htm to submit your job request in advance. We will arrange staff to provide the service. Please note that the service will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Can I book classrooms on Saturdays?

A:

Yes, the classroom booking service will be kept open on Saturdays during the same period.

[Central Administration Support Service (CASS)]

Q:

Will the Central Administration Support Service (CASS) still provide courier service for the central administrative units on Saturday mornings after the implementation of 5DW?

A:

CASS will follow the University's usual operating hours after the implementation of 5DW. User Departments/Units are suggested to arrange with commercial courier companies for delivery service outside the usual operating hours.

Q:

Will CASS provide services for meetings to be held in Cho Yiu Hall and in the Conference Room on G/F of UAB on Saturday mornings?

A:

Advance booking has to be made with the Secretariat (for Cho Yiu Hall) and CASS (for the Conference Room on G/F of UAB). For bookings that are confirmed, CASS will provide services for the meetings to be held in these conference rooms on Saturday mornings. Similar to existing practice, services provided beyond usual operating hours will be charged to cover the overtime payment for the CASS staff.

Can Departments/Units use the other communal meeting rooms in UAB, namely G04, LG1 and LG3, on Saturday mornings?

A:

These meeting rooms are self-serviced venues. Bookings for Saturday mornings can be made with CASS in advance. Users shall collect the door password or door key from CASS one day in advance and return the key on the following Monday.

Where can I drop my external mail on Saturdays?

A:

On the right hand side of the Mail Room entrance on G/F of the John Fulton Centre is a small letter box. External stamped mail can be dropped into this box at any time.

Yes, on or before March 31, 2007 . Thereafter, customers are encouraged to patronise the Souvenir Counter during weekdays, or telephone 26097886 to arrange mailing/special orders.

A:

Yes, EMO will retain a small workforce on Saturday mornings to clean a limited number of classrooms and toilets.

A:

There is no change to the opening hours of the Libraries after the implementation of 5DW in CUHK. Existing opening hours remain the same.

Does University Health Centre still provide service on Saturday mornings after the implementation of 5DW?

A:

Limited medical outpatient service is maintained on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon during the period January 1 to June 30, 2007 . Only walk-in and semi-urgent cases are entertained. Requests for non-urgent medical services (e.g. medication for chronic diseases, physical examination, vaccination, health certificate or medical report, applications for reimbursement of medical expenses, etc) can be made during office hours from Mondays to Fridays. Applications for reimbursement of medical expenses can be made by mail anytime during the week.

Q:

I have a chronic illness necessitating long-term regular medication, currently obtained from UHS. What can I do if I were to find myself inadvertently out of stock of the medication I am taking and am unable to attend on a weekday? Will I still be able to obtain my regular medication from UHS on a Saturday?

A:

As UHS is manned by skeleton staff only on Saturday mornings, only urgent and semi-urgent cases can be attended to. However, in case of need, a one week's supply of a patient's regular medication can be provided. Further supplies will have to be obtained during opening hours on Mondays to Fridays.

Q:

What can I do if I get sick beyond UHS opening hours and would like to have medical service?

A:

The Extra Outpatient Consultation Services Scheme is available for eligible staff and dependents. In case of emergencies, members of the University should seek treatment at the Accident and Emergency Department of public hospitals.

What is the Extra Outpatient Consultative Services Scheme?

A:

The Scheme provides eligible appointees and their eligible family members additional convenience of outpatient consultation services at subsidized charges at clinics under contract with the University. For details, please visit “Medical Service” under the Personnel Office's website.

Will the implementation of 5DW affect my terms of employment at the University?

A:

There is no change to the staff members' terms of employment. The introduction of any variation of the work arrangement will not increase or reduce individual staff members' conditioned weekly working hours . Those who work 39 hours net per week [viz. the majority of Terms of Service (B) and equivalent staff members] will follow UUOH as stated above unless instructed otherwise. Those whose contractual conditioned working hours are more than 39 net per week [viz. basically Terms of Service (C) and equivalent staff members] will work according to the instruction of their D/Us.

Q:

How will my leave entitlement be affected under 5DW?

A:

There is no change to staff members' contractual leave entitlement. The administration of leave will be in accordance with the existing regulations. Annual leave is administered on a working day basis while long leave/vacation leave on a calendar day basis. Under 5DW, any additional "off" day beyond 1 day per week is a "non-contractual off day". Staff members need not apply for leave for their non-contractual off days. However, all intervening rest days, non-contractual off days and public holidays during a period of long leave/vacation leave will be counted as long leave/vacation leave, unless the staff member return to work on those days.

Q:

Is there any arrangement for granting “substituted holiday” to a staff member if a public holiday falls on his/her “non-contractual off day”?

A:

Non-contractual "off" days are not "rest days" under the Employment Ordinance. No substituted holiday will be granted to a staff member if a public holiday falls on his/her non-contractual off day.

Q:

Can requests for employment certification still be made on Saturday mornings after the implementation of 5DW?

A:

Requests for employment certification can be made by phone during office hours from Mondays to Fridays or by fax or email anytime during the week.

Q:

Will there be any change to the closing date for applications to an advertised job vacancy?

A:

At present, 3 weeks' t im e is usually allowed for applicants to respond to an advertisement of a Terms (A)/(HA) or equivalent post placed in the local media (e.g. South China Morning Post), and the closing date for applications then falls on a Saturday. Upon launching of the 5DW, the application period will be extended a bit to accommodate the last weekend, with the closing date set on the Monday that follows.

Will there be any site staff from the Campus Development Office on Saturdays?

A:

The CDO will basically adopt a 5DW. However, site and slope works supervisory staff will be on duty every Saturday, from 8:00am to 5:45pm .

Will the operation of essential IT systems such as campus-wide e-mail system (CWEM), CUHK web server, e-Learning platforms (WebCT, Moodle and CUForum), administrative systems, academic computing systems, e-Services and campus network be affected after the implementation of 5DW?

A:

The operation of essential IT systems will not be affected. In fact, the Central Computer Room of ITSC will continue with its existing non-stop operation after the implementation of 5DW to ensure that the essential IT systems are up and running at all times.

Q:

Will the CU-Link Card Centre be opened on Saturday mornings after the implementation of 5DW?

A:

The CU-Link Card Centre will remain open on Saturday mornings during the 6 months transitional period from January 1 to June 30, 2007 . ITSC will keep the option open to extend the transitional period based on the usage of the Card Centre's services on Saturday mornings.

Will the opening hours of the ITSC User Areas at Pi Ch'iu Building and Wong Foo Yuan Building remain the same after the implementation of 5DW?
