Yes, the classrooms and the T.Y. Wong Hall of the Ho Sin Hang Engineering Building will still be loaned out for use on Saturdays for classes or special activities. Those who want to use the facilities on Saturday mornings (from 8:30am to 1:15pm ) are required to make applications to the Registration and Examinations Section during office hours. Those who want to use the facilities on Saturday afternoons (from 1:30pm to 6:30pm ) are required to make applications to the Faculty Office of Engineering (Room 608 Ho Sin Hang Engineering Building) from Monday to Friday during office hours.

Advance booking has to be made with the Secretariat (for Cho Yiu Hall) and CASS (for the Conference Room on G/F of UAB). For bookings that are confirmed, CASS will provide services for the meetings to be held in these conference rooms on Saturday mornings. Similar to existing practice, services provided beyond usual operating hours will be charged to cover the overtime payment for the CASS staff.

Limited medical outpatient service is maintained on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon during the period January 1 to June 30, 2007 . Only walk-in and semi-urgent cases are entertained. Requests for non-urgent medical services (e.g. medication for chronic diseases, physical examination, vaccination, health certificate or medical report, applications for reimbursement of medical expenses, etc) can be made during office hours from Mondays to Fridays. Applications for reimbursement of medical expenses can be made by mail anytime during the week.

I have a chronic illness necessitating long-term regular medication, currently obtained from UHS. What can I do if I were to find myself inadvertently out of stock of the medication I am taking and am unable to attend on a weekday? Will I still be able to obtain my regular medication from UHS on a Saturday?

As UHS is manned by skeleton staff only on Saturday mornings, only urgent and semi-urgent cases can be attended to. However, in case of need, a one week's supply of a patient's regular medication can be provided. Further supplies will have to be obtained during opening hours on Mondays to Fridays.

The Extra Outpatient Consultation Services Scheme is available for eligible staff and dependents. In case of emergencies, members of the University should seek treatment at the Accident and Emergency Department of public hospitals.

Will the implementation of 5DW affect my terms of employment at the University?

There is no change to the staff members' terms of employment. The introduction of any variation of the work arrangement will not increase or reduce individual staff members' conditioned weekly working hours . Those who work 39 hours net per week [viz. the majority of Terms of Service (B) and equivalent staff members] will follow UUOH as stated above unless instructed otherwise. Those whose contractual conditioned working hours are more than 39 net per week [viz. basically Terms of Service (C) and equivalent staff members] will work according to the instruction of their D/Us.

How will my leave entitlement be affected under 5DW?
|
A: |
There is no change to staff members' contractual leave entitlement. The administration of leave will be in accordance with the existing regulations. Annual leave is administered on a working day basis while long leave/vacation leave on a calendar day basis. Under 5DW, any additional "off" day beyond 1 day per week is a "non-contractual off day". Staff members need not apply for leave for their non-contractual off days. However, all intervening rest days, non-contractual off days and public holidays during a period of long leave/vacation leave will be counted as long leave/vacation leave, unless the staff member return to work on those days.

Non-contractual "off" days are not "rest days" under the Employment Ordinance. No substituted holiday will be granted to a staff member if a public holiday falls on his/her non-contractual off day.

At present, 3 weeks' t im e is usually allowed for applicants to respond to an advertisement of a Terms (A)/(HA) or equivalent post placed in the local media (e.g. South China Morning Post), and the closing date for applications then falls on a Saturday. Upon launching of the 5DW, the application period will be extended a bit to accommodate the last weekend, with the closing date set on the Monday that follows.

The operation of essential IT systems will not be affected. In fact, the Central Computer Room of ITSC will continue with its existing non-stop operation after the implementation of 5DW to ensure that the essential IT systems are up and running at all times.
