These are compact complex surfaces with the same Betti numbers as the projective plane, but not isomorphic to it. They are ball quotients. By Prasad-Yeung and Cartwright-Steger, there are exactly 50 pairs of fake projective planes. With L.Borisov I have obtained explicit equations of one pair of fpp's.
