Restriction of a representation is a classical problem in representation theory that has rich connections with number theory and algebraic geometry. For reductive groups over local fields, the branching laws in several cases are predicted by Gan-Gross-Prasad conjectures. In this talk, I shall give an overview on Gan-Gross-Prasad problems, and also explain how Hecke algebra methods may give some new insights on solutions of some restriction problems.
