Professor S.S. Chern 陳省身教授

世界華裔數學家大會名譽主席陳省身先生不久前作出重大決定，向世界華裔數學家大會捐資10萬人民幣，以支援即將召開的世界華裔數學家大會，即ICCM。陳省身先生原本計劃親自赴香港出席本屆世界華裔數學家大會。萬萬沒有料到，陳省身先生突然與世長辭，這令出席第三屆世界華裔數學家大會的全體數學家感到格外的悲痛。據悉，在第三屆世界華裔數學家大會召開期間，廣大數學家們將在香港深切緬懷國際數學大師陳省身先生的豐功偉績，以寄託對陳先生的哀思。

Prof. S.S. Chern, the Honorary President of the Third International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM), had decided not long ago to donate RMB100,000 to support the activities in ICCM. Prof. Chern had planned to attend the Congress himself in Hong Kong, and to present the Chern Prize and deliver the Chern Lecture. It is extremely sad for us to hear his passing away so suddenly. There will be memorial activities during the Congress to remember the profound contribution of Prof. Chern and to pay our deepest condolence.
