Background

The International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM) is a triennial congress hosted by institutions in Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong in a rotating basis. The previous two congresses were successfully held in Beijing (1998) and Taipei (2001) with around 500 participants from all over the world. One of the highlights of the Congresses is the award of the Morningside Medals of Mathematics and the Chern Prize. Awardees are selected by a panel of international renowned mathematicians with the aim to encourage outstanding mathematicians of Chinese descent in their pursuit of mathematical truth.

The Third ICCM (ICCM2004) will be held in Hong Kong in December 2004. There will be 25 plenary lectures and special sessions on topics in Algebraic Geometry, Applied Analysis, Complex Geometry, Geometric Analysis, Number Theory and Automorphic Form, Mathematical Physics, Mathematical Biology, Numerical Analysis, Probability and Statistics, Waves and Hyperbolic PDE, Wavelets and Fractals, as well as Mathematics Education. Besides the invited lectures, there will also be contributed and poster sessions. Morningside Medals of Mathematics and Chern Prize will be awarded in the opening ceremony.

To make the congress a true worldwide gathering, all presentations will be given in English.

Please note that the morning session (Opening Ceremony) of 17 December 2004 is open to invited guests and registered participants ONLY
